Start and end: Schwerin Castle
Your journey on the water begins at the foot of Schwerin Castle. As you push off from the shore, the castle’s towers are reflected in the lake. The canoe tour takes you across Schwerin’s Außensee—if the waves are rough, we recommend the sheltered route via the Heidensee and Ziegelsee. Herons fly overhead as islands of reeds come into view in the distance.
Once you pass Paulsdamm, the view of the lake opens up. At the northern tip near Hohen Viecheln, the flat shores invite you to take a break. A detour to Wiligrad Castle or a stroll through Bad Kleinen is well worth it. If you’re looking to cool off, you’ll find plenty of swimming spots on the eastern shore.
The route runs along the Ramper Moor peninsula, where frogs croak in the wetlands. The landscape along the Paulsdamm lets you immerse yourself deeply in nature. In the southern part of Schweriner See, wooded shores rise up—this is where kingfishers and tawny owls live.
